Silent to the Bone

Silent to the Bone by E.L. Konigsburg Silent to the Bone by E.L. Konigsburg

I read this for my Youth Lit book group at school. It was an entertaining book and I enjoyed it. This is a book that I think middle school and early high school boys would like if they gave it a chance.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
I read this for my book group for April. I really enjoyed the comic book aspect of it and the relationships of the characters. After reading this book, I kept thinking, I'd love to read the comic books that the characters had written but unfortunately, they only exist in the imagination of the readers.

In Cold Blood

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
We're reading this for the February book in my book group. Fascinating and reads just like a novel. Read the first 50 or so pages in a matter of hours. A gruesome story but a really well-written book.

Particularly interesting as Capote was in the theatres this winter.

Middlesex

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
January 4 - I'm reading this for the book group I've started, this is our first book. This has been an excellent book. It's been a hard book to put down. Not having finished it yet, I still highly recommend this book!

January 5 - I just finished this book. It was absolutely wonderful. The last 250 pages just flew by in a few days. I couldn't wait to pick this book up any time I could. It's about a person who is born Calliope, a girl, but grows up to be Cal, a man. It's about her/his family's story and how Calliope becomes a man when she grows up. The family story is told over three generations and is very interesting. This is a fabulous book. Definitely a must read!

Nineteen Eighty-Four

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
For Bryan's June 2005 book group. Towards the end of this book everything was so intense that I couldn't finish it. I wanted to but I couldn't handle it any longer, it was too disturbing. I had to have Bryan tell me how it ended.
