The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
I love this book. I loved it when I first read it and I loved it as an audio book. I completely fell in love with this book all over again. At first the voices didn't fit with my images of Clare and Henry but I got used to them after a while. I love audio books and while this one was great, it doesn't replace the magic of actually reading this book.
And if you haven't read it but want to, my advice don't get hung up on Henry's time traveling, just read the book and it will all come together. You want to keep up with Henry's age in the book, but don't worry about it. The story is not dependent on how old Henry is, the beauty of this book is the love story that unfolds.

The Mermaid Chair

The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd
27 June 2005 - I started listening to this on my way back to work from lunch today.
6 July 2005 - While I was spinning a good part of the weekend, I was listening to The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. It's by the same author that wrote The Secret Life of Bees that I really enjoyed. During parts of The Mermaid Chair, I've wondered if it was my kind of book but as I get more into it, I'm realizing, yes, it is my kind of book. It's definitely a guilty pleasure book, the perfect book to read/listen to during the summer and a very good book to spin to. If you're looking for a good book to listen to while knitting or spinning, I recommend this one. It's fairly new so it may be hard to come by at your local library.

Reduced Circumstances

At The Villa of Reduced Circumstances by Alexander McCall Smith
20 June 2005 - I enjoyed this but I wouldn't consider this to be one of my favorites.
9 June 2005 - My grandfather is always raving about the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith, so I thought I would check one of them out from the library. I asked Bryan to bring one home from the library and he brought this one home. I started to listen to it in the car on my way to work yesterday. It's really good. It took me a bit to get all of the characters straight with their long names but once I realized I don't have to keep everyone straight just the main character, Professor Dr. Mortiz-Maria von Igelfeld. The book definitely has a level of humor that doesn't hit you in the face like a lot of "funny" books do. This is more of an intellectual humor, if such humor exists. As I get further in to the book, I'll write more.

Ya-Ya's In Bloom

Ya-Ya's In Bloom by Rebecca Wells
4 June - I really enjoyed listening to this. I thought it might focus more on the Ya-Ya's as young girls but that's just the first part of the book. There are more stories about the Petite Ya-Ya's (the children of the Ya-Ya's) and the Tres Petites (the grandchildren). It was an enjoyable listen and I would recommend it to any Ya-Ya fan.
23 May - I started listening to this on my way to work today. (I'm definitely a new audiobook fan.) In this book we visit the Ya-Ya's as young girls. The friendships of the Ya-Ya's were very apparent in Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, we find out where these friendships are rooted and where they originated in this book. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's a book that any Ya-Ya fan will enjoy.

Life Makeovers

Life Makeovers by Cheryl Richardson
23 May - My second audio book for the car. After listening to this in the car, I decided to go ahead and buy the actual book. My first assignment was to come up with 25 accomplishments in the last 12 months. It was difficult at first, but yesterday when I actually sat down to write out eight, I realized how much I really had accomplished. It was a lot of positive reinforcement and also gave me a list of what I want to continue working on through the next 12 months and beyond. In listening to this, I decided to make a few changes in my life as soon as I could. Many of these were changes that I wanted to make after listening to The Gift of Change but wasn't sure how to go about making these changes. This book gave me a lot of ideas. It's a process and my life will not change overnight, but I'm sure I'll look back after finishing this in book form and be able to come up with 25 different accomplishments for the coming year.

The Gift of Change

The Gift of Change by Marianne Williamson
23 May - Bryan and I started listening to this in the car one day. I really liked it and listened to it in the car as I commuted back and forth to work each day. It really made an impression on me. I've set out on a path to change things in my life and I'm already seeing positive results.
This was the first audio book I listened to in my car and I've realized I'm much more calm when I'm listening to audio books while I'm driving than I am when I'm listening to the day's news. I've made a conscious choice to take things more calmly and to work to change my life by thinking positively because that's what will bring positive energy and people into my life.

Light on Snow

Light on Snow by Anita Shreve
23 May - I truly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. After I finished it, I truly missed the characters, especially Nicki, the narrator. I highly recommend this book. It was a very moving book and I think would be just as much if I had read it. There is something very special about having a book read to you, though.

17 May - I'm listening to this on CD in my car. I'm really enjoying it.
It's narrated by a 30-year-old woman, who is looking back to when she was 12 and she and her father found a baby in the woods.
About 1/3 of the way through the story there have already been several interesting turns of events.
